Paramedics say falling pirates kept them busy at parade
TAMPA — Though the party is still raging and Tampa Fire Rescue is still tallying, paramedics estimate that so far they’ve treated at least 80 people on the parade route since the start of the madness.
Most of the injuries are related to falls, said Capt. Bill Wade, a fire rescue spokesman. In some instances people broke their arms or injured their faces taking a spill off the curbs, and some of the incidents “are believed to have a relationship to alcohol,” Wade said.
“When sober people like you and me fall, we put out our hands to stop
ourselves,” he explained. “But when you’re arms are full and you have
something in them you don’t want to spill when you fall, you can end up
with a facial injury.”
